VEDA GYAN - 6

DESTINED DUTY

The God’s creation of all beings is from the Pancha Butha – the five elements, viz, the earth, water, fire, air and ether.(sky).  Once the activity of that creation is over, it again goes back to the Pancha Butha.

Every creation of the Lord has a specific duty, irrespective of it being a living being or a non living thing.

Some ask, “Do non living things also have destined duty”?  Let us assimilate the concept of destined duty for both living beings and non living things.  First let us take the example of non living things.

A piece of rock can be used in different ways – to make the idol of Gods kept in temples, to make the idols of sex symbols to be kept in casinos etc, to attract more people, to make the foundation of a building, to make the foundation of the tomb, to make the canal carrying water to fields, to make the drainage carrying sewerage etc.

We could see the same type of stone serving in different ways.  This difference is due to the Karma of our previous birth.  Similarly all non living things like sand, metals, ores etc. finally end up in the regions where they get transformed and change their existence, thus fulfilling their destined duty.  They get transformed again and again, until they become the smallest particle and gets merged with the Pancha Butha.

Once the transformation is done, the destined duty of the previous form is completed.  Once the stone becomes an idol of a temple, it is the Murthy of God, once it becomes the foundation of a building, it is a foundation so on, and is liberated to another birth.

The same happens for living beings.  Each being has a destined duty.  Let us first take the examples of non human beings.  Some elephants are used in the temples to carry the idol of the God on their head, while others are used to carry timber in the forest, while still others are used as object of entertainment in circus etc.  Same is the case with all the living beings.

Human beings are not different.  Here, as mentioned in Srimad Bagawat Gita, the God has given man a new thing called “intelligence” which no other creatures have. So man has a chance to change his wrong Karmas and do good deeds to reach the God eventually.

In Srimad Bagawat Gita, Lord Krishna, speaks very clearly about the Destined Duty in Ch 18.  The Lord says, “If one fails to perform his Destined Duty when he has the opportunity to do it naturally, he will have to do the same duty under pressure”.

Lord Krishna says the man has the intelligence to seek the knowledge from the God, to know and understand what one’s Destined Duty is.

The Lord was not only annoyed, but angry with Arjun, when the latter refused to perform his Destined Duty, which Lord Krishna had set up for him.  Arjun would never have had the intelligence or ability for this chance to come to him naturally.  It was done by Lord Krishna completely, and yet, Arjun refused to use it giving excuses.  This paved the way for the Lord to teach, not only to Arjun, but to the whole world, the essence of all the Vedas in a nutshell called Srimad Bagawat Gita.

In the Ch: 18 of Srimad Bagawat Gita, Lord Krishna says, when one does dereliction of his Destined Duty, he does an action that is not pleasing to the God.  The main objective of the God’s creation of a man is to make a man perform a specific duty.  So, when this man refuses to do it, God will make him do the same duty, but under pressure and different unfavorable conditions.

It is easy to attain the Lord, if we all perform our Destined Duty only, for which we are created.  All other actions we are doing, like going for job, doing business, visiting friends, having parties, attending to some functions etc., are all only incidental and ancillary, for having received this birth, but the real goal is to do our Destined Duty. Once we do our Destined Duty, all these will automatically come to us with Chakravarthi Yoga, like that of an emperor being served, because we served that purpose for which God created us, so He will give us His reward, which are beyond our imagination and thinking power.

If we can find out and understand our Destined Duty, through our prayers to God and by asking our Spiritual Masters, and try to do it, all other material elements will automatically come to us.  We don’t have to run behind it.

To perform the Destined Duty is not an easy task.  Could you see, how the Pandavas had to fight with all their life to do their Destined Duty?  Although the struggle was so great, Lord Krishna was always with them, protecting them and paving the way for their success.

Lord Krishna also did His Destined Duty by killing Kamsa and Sisupala at the first naturally received moment.  He could have made them surrender or imprisoned them.  But killing them was His Destined Duty, so He killed them.  Killing both these demons were not an easy task, but as it was the Lord’s Destined Duty to do it, He did it successfully.  The Lord also did His another Destined Duty of giving Srimad Bagawat Gita Updesa at the first right opportune moment.

Similarly, once we set up our target to find out and do our Destined Duty at the first opportune moment, God will be automatically be with us, saving us from all the problems and paving the way to our success.  We should not leave it in between, as it would displease the God.  But after it is done, like the Pandavas got back their kingdom and all other material happiness, we also would get all we wanted and all that is due to us.

So, it would be prudent for all, to include in the daily prayers to God, to show each one of us:

1.    The path to know our Destined Duty / the person to show us our Destined Duty
2.    To show us what our Destined Duty is
3.   How to do our Destined Duty

One should never worry, if one could do his Destined Duty successfully,  because only he can do his Destined Duty, as he is the only one born to do that specific duty.  So the success will definitely be his and God will always be with him protecting him while doing it.

If we could do this, we have done what we are born for in this life.  That would make the God happy and make us worthy of living in this world, in a grand manner, during this birth and make us more and more nearer to Him.

Finally, to say, doing our Destined Duty, would give us a chance to take better rebirths, until we all could merge in HIM attaining Salvation.

HARI OM !!
