Veda Gyan - 3

Maa ANNA PURANI

Maa Anna Purani is Ma Sakthi or Parvathi or Durga, the consort of Lord Shiva.  Maa Parvathi in the form of Maa Anna Purani, is mostly dedicated to feed all the living beings on the earth.  The term “Anna” means food, and “Purani” means – she who gives all that is desired by Her devotees.

Maa Anna Purani has taken the form on account of an interesting episode as per Shiva Puran.   Once Lord Shiva and Maa Parvathi have an argument and at the end of it, both of them decide to stay away from each other for some time.  Maa Parvathi takes leave of Lord Shiva and goes for meditation at another place in Kailash.  Lord Shiva after some time feels tired and hungry.  As Maa Parvathi has left he could not find anything to eat.  At that time all the Devas and Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma with their consorts Maha Lakshmi and Maa Saraswathi, goes to Maa Parvathi and makes a compromise between Maa Parvathi and Lord Shiva.

Lord Shiva looks very tired and hungry.  Then Maa Parvathi makes the food and serves Lord Shiva and all others like a Mother.  Then all the Devas salute Maa Parvathi as the Mother who gives all the desires of food to all – Maa Anna Purani.

Maa Anna Purani is always seen smiling with a pot of food on Her left hand and a serving spoon on Her right hand.  She is always ready to serve food to her devotees, which is the first and foremost requirement of every living being.

Out of all our necessities, the first and the foremost necessity of Life is Food.  Food becomes the becomes the Prana / Jeeva or the Life.  The first cry of a child on being born is for food.  Once the child drinks the milk of the mother, it stops crying.  This hunger never stops, but arrives at a definite interval frequently, till our body gets dissolved in the Pancha Butha.

Maa Anna Purani does not stop at giving us the food for our stomach alone.  Like any mother whose first duty is to feed her children, then go to give the knowledge, money, power, education etc., Maa Anna Purani is also our Divine Mother, who first give us the best of foods that we want, then goes on to give us all the material benefits and spiritual knowledge.

All prayers to Maa Anna Purani is attended to by Her immediately, as She is our Divine Mother.  She is the softest and kindest form of manifestation of Maa Sakthi / Parvathi, and so her rush to support and save her children (we) is the fastest.

Maa Anna Purani is the Principal Deity of the Advaitha Universal Mission and so we are always engaged in the Free Food Distribution as our primary objective.  We pray to Maa Anna Purani to bless all those who support our cause of Free Food Distribution program.
